Dreams come true! If one has a dream and tries to fulfill the dream, it will surely come true. If he can achieve nothing, it proves that he has no dream.

As a proverb says, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”

2,000 years ago, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Jesus did not restrict this command to certain people; He gave the command to all people having the will to go. Whoever puts absolute trust in God can participate in God’s wonderful work.

Each of us is to have a great ambition for the gospel: ‘I can become the hero of prophecy.’ We shall remember the power of God who has accomplished His great works through the weak and the humble, rather than get caught up in our own inadequacies.

Fragrance of Zion being emitted from overseas

Recently, I received some good news from the overseer of the New Zealand Zion. It was about one of our Church family members there. Actually, I was somewhat concerned about him before he left Korea, thinking, ‘Will he be able to fearlessly preach the gospel in New Zealand?’ Contrary to my worry, he was bearing lots of good fruit there in New Zealand. When I heard this, I was incredibly happy.

Let me give you some more good news from Peru. The overseer told me about a brother; he didn’t have a positive faith when he was in Korea, but since he came to Peru he’s been loudly preaching the gospel passionately with a loud voice and also leading young adults actively. That’s surprising news to me.

Though they seemed very weak and unable to do that, since God has used them as His instruments they’ve been faithfully carrying out such great and wonderful tasks. I feel even more keenly that men cannot fully fathom God’s providence.

Hearing the good news that those who seemed weak and unable to boldly preach are now leading many souls into Zion, I realize again that everything is possible if there is faith and zeal. Brothers and sisters in Zion are humble, and they tend to focus too much on their own weakness and deficiencies. We first need to trust in God rather than our feeble ability.

We don’t need to worry, ‘I am weak. Will I be able to boldly preach the gospel?’ On the contrary, even if we are competent in a foreign language or have the ability to speak fluently or possess outstanding intelligence, we must not be proud of ourselves for that. It is nothing. The gospel is never accomplished by human ability. God fulfills the work of the gospel through the weak who trust in His great power and seek first His help.

God chooses the humble

When we think of God’s salvation work which has been fulfilled through the ages of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, we can fathom the providence of God who fulfills His great work through the humble.

When God chose His prophets in each era, some were chosen from among shepherds, some among fishermen, and others among tax collectors. A shepherd, a fisherman or a tax collector was not a respectable leading position in the eyes of people. All of them were the poorest and the lowly people in those days.

1 Co 1:20-29 . . . For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe . . . For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things―and the things that are not―to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.

This is the way God chooses His people. He has chosen the weak, the foolish and the poor and fulfilled His great work of salvation through them.

A shepherd can become a great prophet and a fisherman or a tax collector can be an apostle whose name will shine forever, if God uses them.

So Apostle Paul testified that his message and his preaching were not with wise words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power. He just wanted to be used as God’s instrument.

1 Co 2:4-5, 13-14 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power . . . This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. . . .

Saving souls by preaching the gospel―it does not depend on human wisdom, but on God’s power. Even a man of many talents, without the power of God’s enabling grace, cannot bear fruit. Though we are deficient in ability, God uses us and allows us to bear good fruit when we absolutely depend on Him. It is the greatest honor on earth and in heaven to be used as an instrument to reveal the glory of God, isn’t it?

God demonstrated His miraculous power with a wooden staff

Even a common and worthless thing can create a miracle if God uses it. God has used us, worthless beings, to fulfill His work. All our family members in Zion are obligated to follow God to the end with a thankful and joyful heart. Now let’s see what wondrous miracles occurred through a wooden staff when God used it.

Ex 4:2-4 Then the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. The LORD said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. Then the LORD said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand.

The staff Moses held in his hand at that time was his shepherd’s staff that he used when he tended the flock of the priest of Median. It was an ordinary staff of wood, not a golden staff like a royal scepter or an extraordinary staff of great value. With this extremely ordinary thing, however, God fulfilled His great work.

Ex 14:13-16 . . . Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.”

The staff in Moses’ hand was the rod of God’s mighty hand. It was used to divide the Red Sea and lead the Israelites out of Egypt to Canaan. It was not by the staff itself that such a wondrous work could be accomplished, but by the power of God which was upon the staff.

Even after the Exodus, Moses’ staff was used to perform many miracles.

Ex 17:5-6 The LORD answered Moses, “ . . . take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Ex 17:8-13 . . . Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.” So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning . . . Aaron and Hur held his hands up―one on one side, one on the other―so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.

When Moses struck the rock with his staff, a huge amount of water gushed out and all the people were able to drink. And when the staff was raised high, the enemies were totally destroyed.

Though the staff itself seemed so powerful, such miracles were the manifestations of God’s power. Likewise, God wanted to use us as an instrument for the gospel, saying, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” This implies God’s strong intention to use us as His instrument.

No instrument, whether made of wood or gold, should become selfdepreciative or proud. All our family members of Zion are to be always joyful and thankful that God has called us to be His instrument for displaying His great power and accomplishing His wonderful work.

God worked a miracle by using five barley loaves

We are given the grace to be the last living witnesses of God. Now, greater miracles than the ones with Moses’ staff will be created through us. Whatever we do, we shall reveal the power of God as His instrument, constantly praying to God to give us His strength.

Jn 6:9-13 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” . . . and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

In Tiberias, by the sea of Galilee, over five thousand people followed Jesus all day long. Jesus took pity on them and wanted to give them something to eat, but there were only five barley loaves and two fish that the disciples had found at that time. With the five barley loaves, Jesus performed a miracle of feeding the five thousand people.

In performing such a wondrous miracle Jesus used those small barley loaves. However, when Jesus held the simple meal in His hands, a miracle occurred―the five thousand people all ate and were satisfied, and there were twelve basketfuls left over. Considering these Biblical records, we have to recognize and remember that we, though weak and small, can do everything when we are held in God’s mighty hand.

David the little shepherd boy defeated the huge giant Goliath

David was a shepherd boy who watched over a flock of sheep in the field.

Nobody paid any attention to him. However, when he was held in God’s hand as His instrument, he defeated the huge giant Goliath and displayed God’s great glory.

1 Sa 17:42-51 He looked David over and saw that he was only a boy, ruddy and handsome, and he despised him . . . David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied . . . and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” . . . David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground . . . He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the scabbard. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran.

Even King Saul, a veteran fighter, and his generals and soldiers trembled in fear because of Goliath and just listened to him speak blasphemous words against God. Then the young boy David indignantly and courageously went out against Goliath. He was not trained for battle, nor was he used to wearing armor. When Goliath saw the young boy without armor―only with his sling in his hand, Goliath made fun of him. How much did he despise him?

David came against Goliath not with sword and spear; he did not rely upon his own wisdom and strength, but upon God as an instrument in His hand.

This is the way we are to go. The greatest person in the world is the one held in God’s hand. Like David, we are to be an instrument in God’s hand, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and go to the ends of the earth. Then we shall be able to defeat all the forces of evil and accomplish the gospel.

However, if we go out to preach the word, depending upon our knowledge of the Bible and our own ability to persuade, no one will hear us. Preaching the gospel does not depend on human wisdom and ability.

If God uses us, just as He used David and used the staff of Moses, no one can be against us and nothing is impossible for us. The Biblical history clearly shows that.

Go out, as God’s instrument

God ha chosen us, who are weak and feeble, and let us fulfill everything by His powerful word, not by our finite ability. He has accomplished His great works by using the lowly, foolish and despised. Though we have many inadequacies, if we are willing to obey the word of God, many doors will be opened to us.

Let us not become like lazy and foolish children whose feet do not move with the gospel. God told us, “Give the people warning from Me.” Unless we go out and awaken the world, we can not obtain favorable results. What if Moses had not gone out with his staff? And what if David had not gone out to fight Goliath? Would they have been able to accomplish God’s great work?

No one can stop us if we courageously go out into the world in the name of the Spirit and the Bride—God Almighty in the age of the Holy Spirit, like David went out in the name of the LORD Almighty. With absolute faith in God who holds us in His hand, let’s overcome the world and accomplish God’s will as His faithful instruments.

Now the gospel is spreading widely throughout the world, even to the ends of the earth. Let us not just watch David defeat Goliath but go out like David, who went up against Goliath and threw a stone from his sling at him with all his strength. Children of Zion! As an instrument in God’s hand like David, let’s go out together to accomplish God’s will and win a glorious victory.
